Wisconsin women’s tennis finished a doubleheader on Saturday with two identical 7-0 victories, improving its season record to 6-0. The Badgers defeated Bradley in the first match and Green Bay in the second, maintaining a perfect slate for the season.

The result places Wisconsin at its best start to a season since 1992. Green Bay competed with only five players in the second match, leaving the visitors unable to match the pace of the home team.

The Badgers established early dominance in doubles. Freshman MaryAnn Rompf and senior Kelsey Grambeau defeated Theresa Tebon and Tallie Piaskowski 6-1. Sophomore Melissa Pick and freshman Lexi Keberle followed with a 6-0 win over Maria Neff and Samm Pedersen.

Singles play continued the pattern, with no Wisconsin player dropping a set. Keberle, playing at first singles, beat Tebon 6-1, 6-1. Her performance extends her personal combined record in singles and doubles to 7-0. Rompf won her match against Piaskowski 6-3, 6-1, while Michelle Linden defeated Sterre Tijssens 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.

Pick shut out Neff 6-0, 6-0, and Christina Zordani secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pedersen at fifth singles. Zordani’s win improves her singles record for the season to 5-0.

Head coach Kelcy McKenna attributed the results to the team’s focus on controllable factors. “They did a great job with the controlables: their attitude, their effort and their energy,” McKenna said. “Those three things are extremely important to our success.” McKenna noted the team must continue managing details in daily drills and match simulations to prepare for upcoming competitions.

The Badgers will next compete in the National Team Indoor Championship, scheduled for Feb. 9-12.
