Manchester City's grip on first place loosened on Saturday after Aston Villa handed them their first loss of the season, while Arsenal moved level with them at the top of the Premier League standings. The Gunners secured a 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium, erasing the three-point gap that had separated the two clubs. Following eight matches, both teams now sit on 21 points, setting up a tight contest at the summit of the league. City continues to deal with the off-field uncertainty regarding an independent commission's finding that they committed 114 breaches of financial rules, an appeal for which the outcome is pending.

Arsenal took control of their match in heavy rain, with Ezri Konsa opening the scoring in the seventh minute. The goal came from a corner delivered by Martin Odegaard that caused confusion in the Everton box; after Jordan Pickford stopped the initial attempt, Konsa bundled the loose ball into the net from close range. This marked the first set-piece goal for Arsenal in any competition since May, ending a drought that lasted 13 games. Konsa spoke about the team's mindset after the win, saying, "We are champions and to be champions you've got to win games consistently." He added, "This is our home, and we want to win as many games here as possible." Arsenal doubled their lead in the 68th minute through a combination of players marking personal milestones. Ben White, making his 200th appearance for the club, provided a cross that Gabriel headed in during his 200th Premier League game.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery's team climbed to sixth place with 11 points after defeating City 2-1, marking their first home league victory of the season and a third straight league win over the Citizens. Nicolas Jackson put Villa ahead in the sixth minute following a setup by captain John McGinn. Erling Haaland equalized for the visitors shortly after the break with a header from a free-kick delivered by Iliman Ndiaye. Jackson secured the win on the hour mark, finishing a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye that slipped under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. "It's just the beginning; we're trying to work game by game," Jackson told TNT Sports.

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a 2-0 victory over fourth-placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a rare away win for the club. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first league start, punched a corner into his own net in the 77th minute. Cole Palmer was sent off three minutes later after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Conor Gallagher. Mathys Tel finished the scoring in the 87th minute, noting the difficulty of the venue: "It's very special, because we came here a lot of times and didn't get a win." Spurs moved to 12th in the table.

Fulham defeated Coventry City 1-0 for their second league win of the season. Oscar Bobb scored in the 80th minute, curling a finish into the far corner just as he appeared ready to be substituted. Fulham occupies 13th place, while Coventry sits 19th.
