Russia launched 16 ballistic missiles at Ukraine during the night of October 26 and 27, a coordinated assault that also involved more than 280 drones.
Ukrainian air defense forces reported destroying or jamming 257 Russian aerial assets by 9:00 a.m. on October 27. The tally included two Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles and 255 Shahed, Gerbera, and Parodiya drones. Of the drones, 56 were jet-powered variants.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the attack via social media, noting that strikes hit Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson, and Chernivtsi oblasts. The Pivdennyi Bridge in Kyiv sustained damage. Zelenskyy stated that Russian targets focused on the energy sector, logistics networks, and urban infrastructure.
Emergency services responded to a strike on a university campus in the evening of October 26, resulting in 12 injuries. Five of the injured were students or university staff. Zelenskyy said Russian forces deployed additional ballistic missiles while crews were still managing the aftermath of the first wave.
The president highlighted recent delays in receiving interceptor packages for Patriot and NASAMS systems. He noted that Ukraine had waited nearly a month for US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to approve these deliveries. Zelenskyy said these delays directly aided Russia in achieving its campaign objectives and ordered his team to reopen discussions with the US side.
The attack marked a continued escalation in Russia’s offensive operations against Ukrainian logistics and infrastructure.
