Eight straight points by the Indiana Pacers erased a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter, allowing the team to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 107-103 on Wednesday night.
The final score capped a comeback from a 91-86 hole with 6:19 seconds remaining in regulation. Obi Toppin finished the run with two consecutive breakaway dunks. Aaron Nesmith secured the victory with a corner three-pointer with 28.2 seconds left, responding to a Ty Jerome floater that had narrowed the gap to 104-103.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Indiana. The roster returned to health as Pascal Siakam, Andrew Nembhard, and Nesmith all started. Nembhard led the scoring with 22 points, while Siakam added 20. Quenton Jackson contributed 13 points.
Memphis fell to its second consecutive loss after opening the season with six straight victories. Ty Jerome and Cedric Coward each scored 23 points. Zach Edey recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Pacers' defense forced eight Memphis turnovers in the first quarter and 12 in the first half. Those mistakes generated 16 points for Indiana. The teams traded leads until the fourth quarter, and neither squad ever held a double-digit advantage.
Indiana hosts the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Memphis plays the Oklahoma City City Thunder on Friday night.
