Brandon Aiyuk is preparing for a return to San Francisco after filing formal paperwork with the NFL to be reinstated. The move sets up a direct confrontation between the wide receiver and the franchise he recently vowed to avoid.

NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the filing occurred on Wednesday. Aiyuk is currently listed on the 49ers' Reserve/Left Squad list. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, stated via social media that "Brandon is healthy and ready to get back on the field." The player is scheduled to report to the team's training facility on Friday.

This development contrasts sharply with Aiyuk's public comments from July. At that time, he posted on social media that he would not be reinstated with the 49ers or do any business with the team. He described himself as locked in and focused on returning to play this season. That statement came from an NBC report on his social media activity.

The timeline marks a four month shift in Aiyuk's position. He is now executing the specific action he previously ruled out. The 49ers face injury issues at the wide receiver position, which could influence whether they place him on the active roster.

Aiyuk will arrive at the team facility on Friday for what observers expect to be a tense reunion. The decision to file for reinstatement places the veteran back in direct contact with the organization he intended to distance himself from during the summer break.
