A man died inside his car in a Secaucus parking garage, and police arrested a suspect nearby holding the victim's credit cards.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller stated that officers arrived at the parking deck at 200 Mill Creek Drive at 7:48 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, to investigate a reported burglary. They found the door of a 2026 Hyundai Elantra left open. Inside, they discovered the body of a 62-year-old Secaucus man.

The Secaucus Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Squad investigated the scene. Miller said foul play is not currently suspected, but the Regional Medical Examiner's Office is still determining the cause and manner of death.

At 11:02 a.m., Officer Jonathan Padron saw a man matching the suspect description walking on Lighting Way, directly across from the garage. The man, identified as Quashawn Clayton, 28, of Hartford, Connecticut, ran when ordered to stop. The foot chase concluded near 100 Lighting Way, where officers took Clayton into custody.

Police found credit cards belonging to the deceased man in Clayton's possession. He was charged with burglary, theft of movable property, credit card theft, obstruction of the administration of law, and failure to report a death. Clayton is now held at the Hudson County Jail.

Miller thanked the caller who reported the crime while it was happening. Clayton is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the investigation into the death continues.
