William H. Moore, M.D., will take the helm of the Department of Radiology at New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center Health Network. The appointment, announced on October 31, 2026, places Moore in charge of both the academic and clinical sides of the radiology operation. He assumes the role on February 1, 2027.

Moore arrives from NYU Langone Health, where he currently serves as a professor of radiology and vice chair of informatics. In that capacity, he managed the integration of imaging operations across a large health system. His prior role as section chief of thoracic imaging involved overseeing a team that processed more than 400 CT examinations and 1,000 chest X-rays every day. Under his guidance, the thoracic imaging section at NYU Langone expanded to include approximately two dozen faculty members.

The new chair specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases, with a focus on lung cancer. His clinical work centers on image-guided biopsies and minimally invasive therapies such as lung ablation. At NYU Langone, he helped establish a lung ablation program and expanded biopsy services. His research interests also include cryoablation, cryoneurolysis for chronic pain, and the application of pulsed electrical field ablation for lung cancer.

Neil W. Schluger, M.D., Dean of the NYMC School of Medicine, cited Moore’s blend of clinical expertise and technological innovation as the primary reason for the hire. Schluger noted that Moore’s experience with informatics and emerging technologies would improve patient care and operational performance. The dean also expressed appreciation to Zvi Lefkovitz, M.D., for his long tenure as chair, and Hasit Mehta, M.D., who served as interim chair during the transition.

Peter Paige, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of WMCHealth, emphasized the need for timely diagnostic answers. Paige stated that Moore’s expertise in advanced imaging would help the network diagnose disease more precisely. He added that Moore’s track record in recruiting and retaining faculty would be instrumental in strengthening radiology services across the health system.

A central part of Moore’s career involves the intersection of data and clinical medicine. As vice chair of informatics at NYU Langone, he led major technology implementations and system integrations. His work in computational science includes computer-aided diagnostics and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic accuracy. These efforts aim to streamline workflow and increase operational efficiency within complex hospital environments.

Before his tenure at NYU Langone, Moore served as vice chair of education and radiology residency program director at Stony Brook Medicine. In that role, he oversaw graduate medical education activities in radiology and mentored numerous medical students and residents. He received multiple teaching honors during his time at Stony Brook. He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Stony Brook Medicine.

The search for the new department chair was led by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of NYMC, and Peter Paige. They served as co-chairs of the committee, which included representatives from both NYMC and WMCHealth. Moore completed advanced training in thoracic imaging at NYU and informatics at Stony Brook University.

He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology. In 2025, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. His professional background spans more than two decades in academic radiology, encompassing numerous administrative and academic leadership positions.
