Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux confirmed that four people died and 15 others were hurt in three different shootings in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. The incidents happened overnight Saturday, spanning the hours from midnight to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Investigators are currently working at the three locations. Comeaux stated that detectives are still assembling the timeline to determine exactly what occurred at each site. He noted that officers are checking for connections between the events but do not yet have information linking them. The Dallas Morning News reported that the deaths occurred at two of the locations, while at least six others were wounded at a third site.

Police have not released details about the causes of the shootings or publicly identified suspects. However, Comeaux said officers arrested at least one person in connection with one of the incidents. Investigators are interviewing those in custody along with witnesses to clarify the sequence of events. No formal arrests have been announced yet, and the individuals in custody have not been identified to the public.

The department had increased its presence in the Deep Ellum entertainment district for Halloween. Comeaux said the force was fully staffed for the expected crowds. He credited officers with a rapid response, noting that one officer provided lifesaving care to an injured person and successfully revived them. One officer told the chief they were less than two blocks away when they heard gunfire and ran immediately to the scene.

Comeaux described the deployment as a planned effort to manage the Saturday night holiday crowd. He said the quick arrival of officers helped prevent further chaos from developing. The chief emphasized that the presence of personnel on the scene fast was a key factor in the immediate aftermath.

The Halloween shootings mark at least the fourth time this year that multiple people were injured by gunfire in the entertainment district. On Aug. 14, two people were shot along Canton Street. A week later on Aug. 23, a man was arrested after shooting three people on Elm Street. Earlier in the spring, five people were injured in gunfire along Commerce Street during Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

As the investigation continues, Comeaux asked the public to share any video or photographs taken in Deep Ellum during the incident. He said investigators were already receiving information but needed more evidence to establish the facts. He urged residents to submit social media clips, stating that even footage that seems unclear might be helpful to the team piecing together the night.
