The NBA Cup begins Friday with a 10-game slate that tests the depth of the league and the wallets of fantasy basketball players. The schedule features a marquee matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors, pitting Luka Doncic against Stephen Curry. This opening night sets the stage for a season where high-cost stars compete against value options in daily fantasy leagues.
Fantasy professionals are already analyzing the data to identify which players justify their price tags. Mike McClure, a predictive data engineer and DFS professional with over $2 million in career winnings, uses a model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times. His approach accounts for matchups, statistical trends, and injuries to find optimal lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel.
One of the top targets for Friday is Charlotte Hornets guard Dennis Schroder. Listed at $5,400 on DraftKings and $5,000 on FanDuel, Schroder is one of four Hornets averaging double-digit points. In the five games this season, he has posted averages of 14 points, 4.8 assists, and four rebounds while playing 32.4 minutes per contest.
McClure pairs Schroder with forward Brandon Miller, who commands a higher salary of $7,800 on DraftKings and $8,100 on FanDuel. Miller leads Charlotte in scoring at 25.6 points per game. He also averages 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and one block over 33.8 minutes. His recent form includes three consecutive games with at least 30 points, culminating in a 39-point effort in a 110-103 victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday.
Other players on the radar for the opening slate include Cade Cunningham, LeMelo Ball, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Jayson Tatum, Cooper Flagg, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo is the most expensive player on both major platforms as the Milwaukee Bucks face the Miami Heat and Pascal Siakam. These high-profile names often anchor the rosters, but analysts suggest that finding the right balance between star power and value is key to success.
The initial games provide the first hard data points for the season. As the NBA Cup progresses, the focus will remain on which players can sustain their early production. For now, the attention is on the 10 games scheduled for Friday, where the season's first daily fantasy tournaments are decided.
