Northeastern University’s swim and dive team improved to 2-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play.

The Huskies defeated the University of Rhode Island Rams 166-107 at the Barletta Natatorium on Saturday. This result capped a mixed weekend that began with a loss to Harvard and a win against MIT. The home opener served as a redemption for the squad, which fell 198-98 to the Crimson on Friday, October 23, after beating the MIT Engineers 175-121.

Freshman Sydney Holbach anchored the diving event with a 3-meter dive victory, recording a score of 285.45. She also placed second in the 1-meter event. Her performance follows a period of adjustment for the diving program since the departure of longtime coach Lauren Colby.

The swimming roster produced multiple individual champions. Freshman Emily De Amicis won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.96. Sophomore Abigail Gowern claimed victories in the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle. Senior May Bradburn took the 50-yard freestyle, while graduate student Havana Layton won the 100-yard freestyle. Other individual winners included sophomore Alex Fuller in the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Sophie Bromley in the 200-yard backstroke, sophomore Marea Li in the 100-yard breaststroke, and sophomore Eliana Auerbach in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The team also demonstrated strength in relay events. The squad swept the 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard breaststroke categories. In the 200-yard medley relay, the Huskies occupied the top two positions. The winning quartet of Delaney Alonso, Marea Li, Alex Fuller, and May Bradburn touched in 1:44.35.

Northeastern’s 200-yard freestyle relay team recorded a time of 1:32.34 during the tri-meet on Friday. That performance was nearly one second faster than their previous effort. The team is now approaching its school record of 1:30.00.

The Huskies return to the Barletta Natatorium on Saturday, November 7. They will host the University of Connecticut Huskies, who currently hold a 1-0 record in the Big East.
