Hicksville school board members received certificates and tokens of appreciation from local students during a meeting held on Oct. 21.
Superintendent Ted Fulton led the event to coincide with New York State School Board Recognition Week. The ceremony aimed to acknowledge the board's ongoing work with the district and the wider community.
The recognition began with Fulton acknowledging Grace Rosenstein, the ex officio student board member. He highlighted her service in representing the student body. Following that introduction, student representatives from seven elementary schools took the floor.
Jenica Chery of Burns Avenue, Emma Yagual of Dutch Lane, Nicholas Golas of East Street, Hunter Chiusano of Fork Lane, Derek Phagu of Lee Avenue, Adam Hafeez of Old Country Road, and Jake Reyes of Woodland presented the awards. Each student handed a certificate and token to the board members.
Students from the secondary schools also spoke to the board. Avni Gautam and Elaine Liu from Hicksville Middle School shared their thoughts. Juanita Gujral and Sana Wahab from Hicksville High School joined them in thanking the board for its leadership.
Fulton concluded his report by thanking the participants. He stated, “Through the dedication of the board of education, Hicksville Public Schools continues to uphold its mission of empowering every student to achieve success in an environment rooted in care, collaboration, and community.”
