Ten blocks of downtown Corpus Christi will close to vehicle traffic this Saturday to host the 19th annual Día de los Muertos Street Festival. The event is free to the public and runs from 1 p.m. to midnight.
Organizers have arranged live music, art, and food vendors throughout the street closure. A central feature is a community ofrenda, which provides a space for families to honor deceased loved ones. The tradition focuses on remembering the lives of those who have passed.
The festival anchors a wider weekend of activities in the Coastal Bend. The Villain Invasion Halloween Fest will occupy the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina on Saturday and Sunday. Participants can meet actors from horror films, compete in costume contests, and join gaming tournaments. Weekend admission starts at $20, while children aged 12 and under enter at no cost. Visitors who donate two nonperishable food items to the Coastal Bend Food Bank receive a special edition event poster while supplies last.
Saturday morning brings the Monster Mash Cupcake Dash to Water's Edge Park. The event offers a 5K run, a 10K run, or a 2-mile walk. Finishers receive a cupcake, and proceeds support Family Counseling Services, a mental health provider in the region.
For a lower-key option, Asbury Methodist Church hosts family pumpkin painting from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Participants purchase a pumpkin from the church's patch and decorate it. The patch remains open for purchase through Halloween.
A new event debuts at the Hilliard Center on Saturday. Hocus Pocus Corpus runs from noon to 3 p.m. and offers free trick-or-treating, door prizes, and a community resource fair. The program also includes a session on renters' rights.
