Carle Place defeated Cold Spring Harbor 2-1 on Friday night to claim the Nassau Class B girls soccer championship at Farmingdale State College.

The Frogs, ranked No. 2, overcame the top-seeded Seahawks to secure their first county title since 2021. This win breaks a streak of two consecutive losses in the county final, during which the team had surrendered leads in three straight matchups.

Carle Place employed a two-goalkeeper system throughout the match. Emma Barros started the game and recorded four saves in the first half before Brooke Holsgrove took over for the second half. Holsgrove secured the win by catching a rebound after a Cold Spring Harbor shot hit the post with less than three minutes remaining.

Sophomore Daniella Correia provided the offensive spark for Carle Place. In the 24th minute, she passed to Julianna Lugris, who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead. Correia added an assist in the second half when she slid into a shot from Lugris; the ball hit the left post and crossed the line near the right post to extend the lead to 2-0.

Cold Spring Harbor reduced the deficit with a goal from sophomore Alexandra Rossen. Four minutes after Carle Place’s second goal, Rossen met a crossing pass in the air and directed the ball into the net with her shoulder. The Seahawks relied heavily on goalkeeper Charlotte Madigan, who finished with 15 saves, including a key stop in the 31st minute that prevented Lugris from scoring again.

Carle Place coach Steve Cadet credited the team’s resilience after previous close losses. He noted that the team expected another tight contest but managed to close it out this time. Cold Spring Harbor coach Ryan Towers praised Madigan’s four-year career, stating that the team would miss her presence in goal.

Carle Place will face Babylon in the Long Island Class B championship on Monday at 6 p.m. The state subregional contest will be held at the same venue, Farmingdale State College.
