Chicago Blackhawks fans received their new green Hometown Remix jerseys with a mixed response during Monday’s game against the Denver Avalanche. The new look immediately brought back memories of the St. Patrick’s Day uniforms the team wore before the NHL banned specialty warmup jerseys in 2023. Because that previous version was already a fan favorite, the new official release did not generate the same level of surprise.

The design pulls its color directly from the green second feather in the primary logo. Shoulders feature the alternate crossed C logo. Specific differences from the older holiday jerseys include a tan secondary color instead of white and a black collar with tan laces. Four stars, mirroring those on the Chicago flag, are embossed into the sleeve stripes.

The tepid reaction to the Hawks’ release coincides with a strong showing from other franchises in the same collection. The Florida Panthers debuted a pink Miami Vice sweater, while the Anaheim Ducks released a green, purple, and yellow Mighty Ducks jersey. The Los Angeles Kings introduced a purple throwback, and the Boston Bruins added a brown jersey. Several other teams launched black jerseys with vivid accents. This variety likely made the Blackhawks’ green option feel less distinct.

Observers also noted a visual overlap with the Dallas Stars’ regular home jerseys. This similarity was a point of discussion among the crowd. The team has introduced several new looks in recent months. Last season, they wore special red Centennial jerseys. In November of the previous year, they debuted new black jerseys styled after the 1990s, which remain in the current rotation.

The schedule for the green jerseys is already set. The team will wear them again on December 29 against the Vegas Golden Knights. They will also appear four times between March 8 and 16, leading up to the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. The Blackhawks typically reserve their black alternate jerseys for Friday games.

The on-ice performance of the team may also temper fan enthusiasm for new gear. The squad is currently navigating a stretch of struggles. This context adds a layer of complexity to the reception of any new merchandise. The focus for many in attendance remained on the game itself rather than the apparel.
