Samsung is positioning its Galaxy W27 foldable as a premium tier above its standard flagship, with a reported price point of $1,000 higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The device is scheduled to launch in China on October 29, marking the final major foldable release for the company in 2026.
Leaker Ice Universe shared images of the device, showing a glossy blue back panel with gold accents surrounding a triple-camera array. This styling distinguishes the W27 from the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which features a different form factor that has gained traction with consumers.
The W27 is built on the specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the current top model in Samsung’s lineup. This marks a shift from previous years where the W series often rebranded the standard foldable rather than the Ultra variant. The choice reflects a strategic focus on the high-end segment of the Chinese market.
Wide-format foldables are gaining market share in China, driven by competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s latest device shares a similar form factor to the W27, while Huawei has maintained a longer presence in the wide foldable category. Analysts project that foldable display shipments will increase by 44% in 2026 as these wider designs become more common.
Samsung has noted that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is performing well, partly due to heightened attention following the introduction of the iPhone Duo. The company has also updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17. The W27 launch will be the last of Samsung’s new foldables this year, with additional models planned for the following calendar year.
