Miro Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds on Thursday night, a total that capped a grueling defensive effort for the Dallas Stars. The Finnish defenseman did not record a goal, but his final action dictated the outcome of the game.

The Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in overtime at American Airlines Center. The deciding sequence began after Jason Robertson blocked a Jets shot during the extra period. Heiskanen immediately moved the puck to Roope Hintz, who scored on a breakaway with 3:47 remaining.

The assist completed a night defined by heavy workload for Dallas's top pairing. With Esa Lindell scratched, Heiskanen and Thomas Harley carried the defensive burden. Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. The next Dallas defender, Lian Bichsel, played only 17 minutes and 47 seconds.

The game required a late surge from the Stars. Winnipeg took the lead in the second period after goals by Connor and Vilardi, who answered an early second-period score by Johnston. Dallas trailed until Hintz scored a six-on-five equalizer with two minutes left in regulation.

Despite the win, the Stars faced a stiff challenge in front of goal. Winnipeg goaltender Connor Skinner made 35 saves. The Jets outshot the Stars 38-19, forcing Dallas to find an efficient path through the defensive zone to create scoring chances.

Heiskanen finished the game with five shots on goal, one blocked shot, and the winning assist. Harley did not score. The performance highlights the reliance on the top two defenders while Lindell is out. No specific return date or rotation change was announced after the final buzzer.

The Stars will look to adjust their defensive minutes in upcoming games. The current lineup saw Heiskanen and Harley play more than double the time of their next options. The team secured a victory that required sustained pressure from its top pairing throughout the night.
