BYD has confirmed that its newest ultra-luxury electric sedan will launch in the United Arab Emirates before it hits the Chinese market. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of the Yangwang sub-brand, made the announcement this week. The company has not yet set a specific calendar date for the reveal.
The vehicle is the largest sedan BYD has built. Local reports place its length at 5,500 mm, or 216 inches. Its shape resembles the Rolls-Royce Phantom. This move positions the brand against high-end rivals like Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach. It stands out because BYD is widely known for affordable models such as the Seagull, a small hatchback that costs under $10,000 in China.
Yangwang serves as the top tier of BYD's product hierarchy. It sits above the Denza and FangChengBao brands. The division showcases the company's most advanced technology. Previous models used a quad-motor e4 platform with 1,300 horsepower. They also featured the DiSus-X body control system, which allows the car to jump or drive on three wheels.
Hu shared images of the new sedan undergoing testing last month. The car was covered in camouflage but showed coach doors that hinge at the rear. This is a first for the manufacturer. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, said the car will include unprecedented disruptive technology. He did not provide further technical details.
Observers note the car was displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station. This suggests it supports megawatt charging. Reports also indicate it is the first model to use BYD's solid-state batteries. Stella Li, executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that the company's first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027.
The sedan is expected to make its official debut this month. Rumored pricing starts at 2 million yuan, or about $300,000. That price tag is well above the current Yangwang lineup. The U7 electric sedan starts at $98,000. The U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, the brand's current highest-priced mass-produced vehicle, starts at $217,000.
