Visitors to the Apple Music website can now access a working replica of the original iPod by entering a specific address. The feature appears on the error page for non-existent content, replacing the standard message with the iconic hardware design.
A user named Kian discovered the hidden element on X. It marks the 25th anniversary of the device, which Apple first introduced on October 23, 2001. To view the player, users must go to music.apple.com/ipod or add any other invalid path to the main domain.
The virtual device responds to user input in ways that mimic the physical product. Clicking the on-screen buttons allows navigation through a list of pre-installed songs. The scroll wheel functions as a drag interface, enabling users to spin it just like the original hardware.
The digital library contains tracks from artists who were popular in 2001. Selecting a song plays a 90-second preview directly in the web browser. No separate application is required to hear the audio.
The iPod is no longer in production, but this web tribute offers a way to revisit its interface. Apple has not announced any plans to release a new dedicated music player. The current Apple Music service costs $11.99 per month and is included in the Apple One bundle.
